What's Happening to Our Magazines?!

Over the last several years I've heard a lot of talk about the end of the magazine as we know it. As a writer and a reader this truly scares me. With the availability and ease of getting content online many people seem to find magazines unnecessary. Subscriptions are way, way down and readership seems to be as well. Maybe it's just time for change in the reading world, but one can't help but reminisce. Remember the first time you picked up a Word Up magazine? Okay, maybe it wasn't for the literary content as much as it was for the Immature posters. From Suede to Jane to King (yea, maybe not King) our fave mags are folding left and right. Now I don't hate the Internets (as our old friend Bush would say) for taking down mags. I would much rather go to a website for free than walk in Walgreen's and pay 4.99 for a high gloss mag filled with ads. However, the kid in me who collected stacks upon stacks of Seventeen and Vibe, and who currently has a nice collection of Essence and Elle growing, would really hate to see all my magazines fold. So how in the world do we support the written monthly word today?
