In a marathon-style shoot, over 30 subjects have been captured on film by local photographer, Matthew Kirksey. The collection features both color and black and white headshots that illustrate the personification of human emotion. The results of the shoots will be a raw exhibit of photographic genius.

Best Kept Secret will take place on Sunday January 31, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at Fairmount Martini and Wine Bar.

Free Sex Tour (Ohio)

“Free Sex!” short for “Free Sex Education” is the campaign slogan used for this sex information music tour. The main objective of this campaign is to promote abstinence and safe sex to teens throughout Northeast Ohio while giving them a good environment of music. The slogan “Free Sex” is used to captivate the attention of teens initially then convert that attention into information about STD’s, safe sex practices, abstinence, and the effects of teen pregnancies.
Each year approximately 3 million cases of STDs occur among teenagers and approximately 870,000 teenagers become pregnant. Over the years the teen pregnancy rate has seen a drop, but rates of HIV and other STD infections have not declined. HIV, other STDs, and teen pregnancy can all impact students’ capacity to excel at school and can be a contributing factor in decreasing high school graduation rates. By making teens aware of these shocking statistics, this will force young adults into deeper though about being sexually involved. Overall, we will make students more cautious and aware of the ramifications of experimenting with sex at an early age and how it can have a negative effect on their dreams and aspirations.
Our tour also plans to decrease the dropout rates and other negative implications due to teen pregnancy that can hurt the school’s image as a whole. By reducing teen pregnancy, HIV, and STDs at schools across Northeast Ohio we hope to impact students from other parts of Ohio as well. If our program spreads across the state it has the potential of making the state of Ohio become one of the top states in the nation for providing both excellent school and sex education.

Haiti gets hit hard

On Tuesday, January 12, Haiti was hit with a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake, which officials believe, has left over 100,000 people dead. The capital Port au Prince has been completely ruined, with no buildings left standing.

According to cnn.com, "CNN's Anderson Cooper, viewing Port-au-Prince from a helicopter, called the sight of the destroyed buildings in the quake-devastated city "incredibly shocking" and "eerie."

Haiti is in dire need of medical support. There are many options available for those who are willing to donate, even as little as $5. Many local tweeters, along with Dollhouse, are taking the option of texting the word "Yele" to 501501. By doing so, $5 will automatically be charged to your next cellphone bill. That easy.

The Wow Factor

Like a first kiss. That first conversation. A breath of fresh air. Its so refreshing. Wow. That is all that you can think, to yourself as you replay everything back in your head. Its definitely not love. Too soon. Its just wow. It’s the wow factor. We all go through it upon the introduction of a new interest. It plays out something like this:

You meet. You exchange numbers. You play the waiting game of who calls who first. Then the call is made. Maybe it’s a text. Maybe it’s a bbm. That first conversation does one of two things. It either makes or breaks this new relationship. The first conversation is always fun. Its like the interviewing process, where you ask each other every question that comes to mind. It consists of trial and error. So at what point do you realize that you want to pursue a second conversation? When or how do you realize that this person is actually worth more of your time, in the near future? A few signs may be:

Few, close to no awkward silences. Plenty of laughs. A lot of in common qualities. The ability to agree to disagree on the uncommon qualities. The mentioning of a second conversation and/or a “date.” And for some, the feeling of “it just feels right.” If the initial conversation consists of one or more of the above mentioned, then you have just landed into phase 2 and nine times out of ten, you will leave that conversation with a slight case of the “wow factor.”

Now lets fast forward into phase 2……..Does your conversations, whether via telephone or face to face STILL consists of the laughs, non awkward silences and more common interests? We all get to a point within in relationship, romantic or platonic, where we realize that the relationship is either going to be a benefit or a load of sh**. The success of any relationship is based on the longevity of the “wow factor.” If and when you make it past the initial conversation, how long does that person leave you with a bold “wow” stamped on your mind? Have they wooed you long enough where even 6 months down the road, you still silently wow yourself, as if you had just met?

For me, it is very hard to come across a long living wow factor, but when I do, I am like a hooked fish because the wow factor is so hard to come across. So what wows me? Intriguing and genuine conversations. Common interests. Being taught something that I had never learned before. A conversation with a driven and goal oriented foundation. Personality. Laughs, laughs and plenty of laughs. If I engage in a conversation that consists of those qualities on a normal basis, then I have officially been hit with the “wow factor.” Now everyone’s definition of their own wow factor will be different and individually based. So to know the level of your expected wow factor, you must first know what it is that you want, need and expect to make and keep you happy. The good thing about the wow factor though, is its natural and doesn’t really have any set rules. Its raw, its there and you just know. The wow hits you unexpectingly and you find yourself saying it, without really saying it. It may not actually be the word, but the feeing that your mind is having. Your mind is in a state of wow.

The life of my longest wow factor started in 2000 and ended in 2009. For those nine years, I was in love with a man, whom I could not be with for many reasons. He knew how I felt about him, but because of many different circumstances, we just couldn’t/wouldn’t be. The day that he decided that I was the one that he wanted and was looking for this whole time; the day that he told me to my face, after not seeing each other in years, that he wanted to make US work; this day was the day that my nine year wow factor had officially died.

To this day, I still wonder why it took so long, was it me, was I wrong, was I being selfish and so many other questions, but the truth was, no matter how hard I tried to dig for an answer, my wow factor could not be resurrected. I had been facing this factor for so long, without it being reciprocated that my wow had finally died off.

The wow factor is a wonderful feeling. It makes you feel tingly on the inside. For me, I am like a blushing and giggly school girl. I love the wow factor and I wish that I could experience a longer version of it more often, as I date. At the same time, because the wow factor is a special feeling, everyone will not experience the longevity of it, but only those special someone’s who will hold a certain spot in your heart. Just think, everyone who has ever left you with a long lasting wow factor, is probably someone that you will never forget. An ex, your first love, your first heartbreak, etc. we experience some of our best and worst times with these wowers. I just know that I am looking forward to the day when I experience my final wow factor and it will be a lifetime of the wow factor. Everyday that I wake up next to him. Everyday when I fall asleep next to him. His smile. His joy will be my joy. Our life together, as one. Now at that point, it will no longer be the wow factor, but he shall become my Mr. Wow For a Lifetime. Wow.

Canadian 15 year old sensation, Justin Bieber is signed to Island, under RnB phenom, Usher. Bieber recently started his singing career at the age of 12, in Ontario, singing in local contests and shows. After awhile, he began to post his music on YouTube and that is where it all began. So So Def marketing exec, Scooter Braun, flew 13 year old Justin down to Atlanta, where he eventually met Usher. By October 2008, Bieber was officially signed to Island and started to work on his debut album, My World. His current single "One Time,' is one of his favorites off of the album, which he also has an official video for, featuring a cameo by Mr. Usher himself:

Candle Light Vigil in Cleveland

Anthony Sowell is a name that will live on in Cleveland history. The bodies of 11 women have been found throughout his house in Imperial Ave, in Cleveland, Ohio and one has been identified so far, as a 52 year old mother who had been missing since November 2008. Sowell, an ex Marine, has already served time in prison for rape and was currently on probation when the investigation began. He has been arrested and convicted but these tragedies are still lingering over Cleveland, as many people have questions, some that may not be answered anytime soon.

This Friday at Luke Easter Park there will be a city wide candle light vigil, from 6pm to 8pm for the 11 bodies found. Click here for more info.

The 20Something Year Olds Challenge

Prelude: At first, I was going to try to make this poetic, catchy and deep but then I realized that the issue that I am about to discuss deserves more attention than just a rhyming sequence; An issue that hurts my heart and is evident in everyday news that this issue isn’t getting any better. My biggest concern is that we, the 20somethings, are ignorant to the fact of our importance and relevance in what is going on in today’s society and without awareness, it will only get worse, making it even harder to fix.

OUR YOUTH NEEDS HELP FROM US, THE 20SOMETHING YEAR OLDS…PERIOD. THEY ARE VICTIMS OF A LIFE AT RISK DUE TO:

WORKING PARENTS NOT AROUND, STRIVING & STRUGGLING TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILY IN THIS RECESSION

ABSENTEE FATHERS

YOUNG PARENTS

PARENTS AFFECTED BY SUBSTANCE ABUSE

AND THE LIST GOES ON…….

It is not our fault nor is it our obligation to be there for them, when no one else can be BUT it is our responsibility as the future leaders we all want to become, to acknowledge what is going on in our community with our youth and to take action. We put statuses up on Facebook and Twitter, distraught, sad and angered by what we hear on the news about another “unfortunate situation” with another young teen. In the midst of the hype, we are vocal and opinionated about what is going on in the streets with our youth. We come together, in agreement finally, as young adults to state how we feel and how distressing it is. And it is not until when the news, the politicians and the activists quiet down and forget that we begin to quiet down and forget…..that is until the next act occurs.

As a 20Something yea old, we need to stop acting as a HYPE man/woman, emphasizing our opinions when it is convenient and accepted but to take it to that next level. Our generation gets scared when we hear the term, “GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY,” but it’s not as hard as it sounds. Encouraging, mentoring, spending time with, acknowledging and empathizing is all it takes, whether it’s the young girl down the street or your Aunt Whatsherface’s 14 year old son. We are caught up in the “I” but it’s time to get caught up in the “WE.” WE are too self-centered to notice anyone else in the same room with us, someone who may be crying out for help…

Be proactive within your surroundings and maybe we won’t have so many retroactive frequencies in the community.

This is my challenge to YOU, the 20Something Year Olds, as well as MYSELF…..Ready? Set….GO!

Image is everything, image is key, image is what is apparent to both you and me…..right? But image is not real, image is not the true you, but apparently your online image perfectly describes…. you…..right?

Facebook and Twitter are the two most popular online networks. Facebook started off as a resource for college students to stay in touch with old friends and family. It has now evolved into, not only a public “art gallery” but is the god that created Twitter, an idol that we all are guilty of worshiping and another online “art gallery” that portrays the pieces of art that we create for each other. We paint images of ourselves for others to see and hopefully believe. We try to create a person that we WANT to be, but may not necessarily really be. Bragging rights on who has the most followers, is cool…..RIGHT? Must be, because EVERYONE does it....But who is REAL on Facebook and Twitter? How can you tell that the person you constantly RT on Twitter would be the same person, if you spoke to them in person? Or....you say one thing on Twitter/Facebook, but in real life, your actions are contradictory.

So ummm, yea......Our generation, unfortunately, has allowed technology to subliminally show us who we are supposed to be, just like the media, and that image is more important than reality and our integrity/character. Show me who you really are, that’s foreign nowadays....We are allowing Facebook/Twitter to define our image, but before these social networks, who were you really? Does that person still even exist? People confuse IMAGE with INTEGRITY.... but they are different. Your integrity is way more important than your image....so why are we so focused moreso on image? We actually need to focus on both and find ways to balance them both, without looking like a complete fake! But most importantly, know who you really are before you try to convince other people of who you are.

In a world where Christianity is stressed yet hidden, taught but forbidden, a common practice yet rarely taken seriously and loved but still despised. The common belief may be that Christianity is only acceptable when times are hard. God is only existent when we need Him the most. Prayer is only necessary when our personal issues have reached their climax. That is when the world can accept Him. At the same time, as we seek Him during these storms, we question who He is and why He does what He does. We don’t understand His ways, we are quick to judge Him and sometimes, we denounce His name because we simply just don’t understand Him. When the storm has passed and the tears are dry, He becomes nonexistent again and believe it or not, we are quite okay with that. We no longer speak His name, the praises are gone for now, our appreciation is now a skeleton in the closet.
Many of us were raised in the church. We were taught to say the famous bedtime prayer, “Now I lay me down to sleep….” We prayed over our food, “God is great and God is good, today we thank Him for our food….” And one of the first songs that we memorized was “Jesus Loves Me.” Every Sunday, your mother probably dressed you in your Sunday’s best, fresh haircut, fresh pressed curls, tights that itched and always got torn, dress shoes that you had to scuff every chance possible and cookie crumbs and juice spots on your new white shirt. We couldn’t wait to get to church and either sit in the sanctuary or go to children’s church because you were either hungry and couldn’t wait for snack time or simply because you would see your childhood best friend at church. Life was good, God was great and to a certain extent, we were not liable for our actions.
Skip about 15 years down the road now. Here you are, its Sunday morning and you are either at work, mad because you just got home from the club at 5am and now have to be at work at 9am. Maybe you didn’t have to work, but because of last night’s festivities, you just cannot get your body out of bed. A possible attempt to make it to church crossed your mind but for some reason, your body fought you about it and you lost. “God knows my heart,” sounds familiar? This is what you say, as you lay back down and promise that you will make it to church next Sunday. God understands because that is what He does. He is gracious and merciful, right? He is forgiving and won’t mind if you miss a day, right? Soon, this becomes a weekly habit that you just cannot shake. Next thing you know, it’s been about a month since the last time you heard the Word. You feel that reading a bible verse here and there can serve as a substitution. Maybe a prayer in the morning and one at night will do because, say it with me, “God knows my heart.” So God knows your heart, but is God in your heart? Of course He knows because He is the creator of all things, even you and I. So come with something better.
Let’s take a quick look at what a relationship is; defined as “the connection between two or more people or groups and their involvement with one another, especially as regards the way they behave toward and feel about one another,” a relationship consists of involvement and getting to know a person on an intimate level. God already knows you but do you really know God? Do you understand why He does what He does? His purpose on your life? What He needs you to do to really know and understand Him? Do you know His voice because if you did, then this walk that we call Christianity wouldn’t be so hard.
Many times, we get so caught up in what the world considers cool and acceptable that we forget that while we are in this world, we are not to be of this world. Easier said than done, trust me, I know but I also know that God is open and is forgiving. He knows our struggles, our weaknesses and what we need to do to get stronger in His ways, but He will not continue to give us what we want if we do not give Him what He needs. It’s only human to want without having to give and that is how we treat God. We want Him to bless us, answer our prayers, protect us, provide for us and counsel us but we refuse to work for Him. We don’t give praise where praise is due. We barely go to church. We don’t speak of His name to our unsaved friends. We don’t praise Him just because of who He is and not because of what He has done. We don’t know His voice. When you go to work, do you just sit there and stare at the clock until its time to leave but still expect your 401K, medical, vision and dental benefits? You walk in, you don’t speak to anyone, you ignore your supervisor and dare your boss to fire you? Well God is our boss, yet He is more patient. He is allowing you to be “lazy” for a little while, waiting patiently while throwing a couple of bricks in your path, to trip you up, seeing if you eventually will wake up.

Meet Judith Hill, the former backup singer for Michael Jackson, who suddenly is a new media hot commodity after her rendition of “We Are The World” and “Heal The World” at Jackson’s memorial in Los Angeles, this past Tuesday.
Hill, 25, was scheduled to tour with Jackson, as a backup singer, in London, for his come back tour, “This Is It.” Of Japanese and African American heritage, Judith Hill just may have picked up a new spot in America’s eyes, by accident. A talented and young singer, Hill may just be the next big thing, but is it only because of her position as Jackson’s former backup singer, right before he died? Would we really know or care about Hill if Jackson had not passed away so suddenly?
Answers that we will never know and only time will tell how talented this bubbly singer/songwriter really is. Hill began recording in April of this year, but an album release date has not been set as of yet.

Michael Jackson will be laid to rest today, in Los Angeles, with a memorial concert at the Staples Center. This concert will include but not be limited to appearances and/or performances by Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Usher Martin Luther King III and Kobe Bryant.

To pay homage to the King of Pop, here in Cleveland,there will be a candlelight vigil at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame from 9pm to 10:30pm. There will be a short presentation from a local pastor as well as the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame President, Terry Stewart. Fans will also be allowed to speak briefly as well.

MJ was bigger than the USA, he was the musical face of the world, breaking records, setting trends and accomplishing goals that many could only dream of. Ostracized yet loved by everyone, Jackson’s style and moves lives on today and will continue to live on in artists’ to come. This may have been his end, but he will always be someone’s beginning…the beginning to dancing, beginning to pop, beginning to fashion, beginning to what real and original music is.

So, TI’s “wife”, Tiny and Lil Wayne’s ex wife, Antonia ‘Toya’ Johnson-Carter, have joined forces on BET’s new reality show, “The Tiny and Toya Show.” These two have decided to show the world what its like to be involved with two of Hip Hop’s greatest rappers while battling with their own lives as individuals.

Watching the show just reminds me of a hip hop version of “The real housewives of Atlanta” but on a more personal level because it is only the two women. Appearing very cool and down to earth, Tiny and Toya are struggling to find inner peace with themselves as they battle issues, such as a father who has Alzheimer’s and a mother who is on drugs. The women come together as friends and confidants to give each other advice and to be that shoulder when times get hard. A friendship that seems genuine, these two Hip Hop wives shows us that they are more than trophy wives/baby mamas, but that they are individuals who struggles just like us and who just wants to be happy, something that money cannot always buy and keep.

Former NFL Quarterback, Steve McNair was found dead on July 4th by friend, Wayne Neeley on July 4th at their condo in Nashville, Tennessee. Along McNair, was his 20 year old girlfriend, Saleh Kazemi, who had also been shot and killed. McNair, whose death has been confirmed as a homicide, had been shot twice in the head and twice in the chest, while Kazemi had only been shot once. The cause of her death is TBD.

Think about a Renaissance woman and Tiffany Lardomita comes to mind. Determined to help the people of Cleveland and the world over to live their best lives, Tiffany does it all. From web design, to blogging, to motivational speaking there is nothing this girl can't do! While most girls dance around to songs like "She Got Her Own" and "Miss Independent" knowing full well they need to sit down, Tiffany is one woman who could proudly stand up. Read on but I must warn you: you will absolutely love Tiffany when you're done!

1. It seems that you do it all! What is it that motivates you to take on so much?

I have varied interests and I find that my creativity flourishes when I have many outlets for it. All of my endeavors fall under the umbrella of information services, so like an investor, I diversify.

2. How did you become involved in web design?

Ha! By accident. I paid a web designer to build a site to promote my motivational speaking business. He avoided my phone calls for weeks so I had to track him down and threaten him with litigation. He showed me a 2-page website that was garbage at which point I decided to do it myself…even though I had never designed a site.

My first attempt at a website was really pretty, but it failed because I had no clue how to get traffic and market online. I then learned how to build websites that work FOR your business (so that you don't end up working for your website). In the process, I taught myself HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash, SEO, and SEM. I’ve never thought of myself as a “tech” person, but I’ve found that with the right tools (SBICleveland.com), it's easier than you think.

3. In addition to web design, you also write. How did you get into writing?

I had always kept a journal or diary until the day that my mom read it when I was a teenager. She ruined it for me. J

In 2006, my online writing started when I committed to blogging every day for 30 days on MySpace. I have quite a few subscribers and their comments are always inspiring. Since then, I’ve never looked back. The currency online is information, and as an Infopreneur with 7 websites, I realized that my writing translated into money. You become a writer real quick when you see dollar signs.

4. And finally, motivational speaking! How did you get into that and where are some of the places you have spoken?

For the last decade, I've worked as a recruiter/presenter for three colleges in Ohio and Michigan. I have spoken about "life after graduation" to seniors at every high school in Cleveland, Akron, and Canton. I enjoy informing and entertaining people, and I wanted to make a career out of it --- without having to promote a college. Now I speak at various events around the city on topics ranging from "finding self-confidence" to "how to market to web-savvy customers". I love performing and enjoy contributing to the success of others.

5. What are some upcoming projects you're working on?

My passion is personal development, which includes health, relationships, career, money, habits, and spirituality. I think that when we focus on these things, they bring us happiness and success.

Instead of preparing all young people for college - which 50% of them are NOT ready/cut out for and which doesn’t guarantee happiness and success - I think we should help people learn how to manage these six areas of their lives. I am raising money to build a brick-and-mortar learning center for that purpose… to help people discover their passions and create rich and fulfilling lives.

In the short-term, I am working on fun relationship seminar parties for single, smart, and sexy people in Cleveland who are tired of the bar scene, but want a way to meet someone(s) special. Details coming soon.

6. With all that you do, how in the world do you make time for yourself?

Luckily, my work is play. It might as well be called "hobbies I get paid to do". If I were to make a list of my hobbies it would include: reading, speaking, thinking, writing, and creating. I've built my Information Consulting business around what I love.

7. What are some of your biggest sources of inspiration?

I guess I'm inspired by the little things that happen in my life. I can find humor in most situations, and since I'm open and real, I have no problem sharing my failures and successes with people.

As a relationship writer (firstloveyou.com) and single woman, I can tell you that my dating life definitely inspires me. I write about the men I meet and how they fail to create any attraction with me. I also write about relationship issues that my friends are going through. (I never share real names.)

8. What does the future hold for Tiffany?

Write a couple of books. Build my own learning center. Live in a cool loft apartment downtown. Take trips to secluded beaches all over the world. Have fun and enjoy life. I’m easy to please. Ha!

9. What is your favorite thing about Cleveland?

The Metroparks! We are surrounded by so much free, natural beauty from the waterfalls at Bedford Reservation to the trails at Rocky River Park. We are very lucky to live here.

10. What advice do you have for other young people trying to make it in Cleveland?

Don't complain that "the city doesn't have this" or "the people here don't do that". This area is ripe for YOUR innovation and creativity. If you notice something missing from the area, don't waste your energy criticizing. Take your cue from the universe and step up and make it happen. It all begins with you.

1. What is the significance in the name Keyel to who you guys are as artists?
Keyel is short for Key Elements and pretty much means we embody the culture of hip hop and being real as possible. which was key when hip hop emerged

2. How did all of you meet?
Holy, Pease, and Twizz, are all high school buddies, and we met Eso at a slum village show, and we were the only ones going crazy, so we just instantly clicked

3. Describe your genre of music.
A fusion of hip hop, electronic, soul, amongst other things

4. In your words, what is the difference between a rapper and a lyricist?What are Keyel?
A rapper is like a normal cook, and a lyricist is like the head chef, they both can cook, one is just better at it... and we like to think of ourselves as chefs lol

5. Finish the statement: Hip Hop______.
Is nothing really, it used to be dope but now look at it. there's so many sub genres that its hard to label anyone hip hop now days.

6. If you had to compare your style to someone, who would it be and why?
I mean we have many influences, but i dont think theres anyone with a sound like ours. its really unique

7. Why should someone want to come to a Keyel show?
It'll be a high energy, fun, good times rollin show.

9. Who is your favorite Cleveland DJ?

Both, because everyone needs to hear what keyel is putting out, and we love the underground, but mainstream bring the chips

What Happens To a Dream Deferred?

Stop what your doing for a moment and think with me. There's something you've been thinking about doing lately, but you just haven't yet. Going to grad school, moving to L.A., going into a new field. Maybe you shared that dream with someone only to quickly be shot down. I feel your pain. I've often been accused of not knowing what I want to do in life. But the fact of the matter is, I know exactly what I want to do...EVERYTHING! All too often we allow the people in our lives to create our future. There's a quote I love by Tyler Perry that goes like this:

"When you start to dream and see yourself in a better place, don't share it with everybody. Long ago I stopped telling people my dreams because I would always run into dream stealers--people who are so miserable and so mad at the world that all they can do is bring you bitter words of hopelessness. Stay away from these people. They are poison." --Tyler Perry

Harsh, but true. Many times when we get excited about a new possibility in our lives we want to share it with everyone. However, nobody knows you quite like you do. The people whose opinions we care most about sometimes don't understand where you are in life and what your ultimate goals are. They don't always see things the way you do. How many times have you written off your dreams because you shared it with someone else who simply didn't see things your way?

Sometimes you have to follow your own instincts and make your own way. Don't let other people live your life. Langston Hughes once asked what happens to a dream deferred? I don't know, but I'm definitely not trying to find out.

Dolla, 21, an up and coming rapper, signed to Akon's record label, was shot and killed in Los Angelas outside of a shopping mall. The rapper, Roderick Anthony Burton II, had a hit single, "Feelin Myself" and was also featured in the movie, "Step Up."

A 23 year old suspect was later arrested at the LA airport.

we have to leave our own land just to gain some support?

Many were made right here in this land
Maturing in the best way that we all know that we can

Taking the life out of you and your dreams, putting you on life support?

Competition is at its best, even right down the street
Party promoters trying to be on top, wanting the most money
Not giving a care about whose toes that they cross
As long as the money is coming, their own cousin may be the cost

Local party goers kick it and support your own ish
But when they throw an event, all you wanna do is talk spit
Giving you their dollar and all of their love

Bring it down a notch and get off of your horse

“It gets lonely at the top” and that’s if we don’t make a change
Recognizing how to really make it while playing this game

You think the game is about the money, the fame and the best rep
The nice clothes, maxed out capacity parties and the whips
Stamping the city with your name, you obviously think that’s hot
But I don’t think that’s the change Barack was talking about

So bring your ego down just a notch or maybe two
Take a step back and see how you really are an influence
Nothing major at all, if you lack that cup of humble iced tea
You think that you’re major, but you’re name wont go down in Cleveland history

Be the change that you want/need Cleveland to be
Support those around you, because you never know where their success may lead
You may need them one day more than they need you now

For those of us who didn't grow up c-walking all the way to Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles the concept of eating the two meals together may seem a bit...strange. It was to me anyway until recently I tried this phenomenom and saw what I'd been missing.

I'm not sure who first decided to make some waffles and then subsequently fry some chicken and eat it all together, but I salute them. It is actually good. If you have yet to try this West coast delicacy, head to Mr. Wonderful's Chicken & Waffles on Lee Road. The waffles are nice and fluffy and the chicken is a tad salty, but good nevertheless. It's definitely worth a try!

Alien Kicks was started by three friends in 2009, in the Nassau area (Bahamas for those of you who dont know)who had quite the shoe fetish for some nice kicks. These three, Jamal Smith, James Mckinney and Scharad Lightbourne, "found that after publishing their sneaker article "Kicks," that globalization and the popular hip hop fever created a hunger for fashion in the bahamas, according to Smith. Showcasing "limited and exclusive sneakers for guys who like that out of the box futuristic look," they realized that a lot of the fellas were eager for the skater boy look and Alien Kicks definitely provides that look and feel.

According to Smith, "For many years, jordans and airforce one's were the shoe staple for many young men, but as time progressed, people wanted more and needed a new level of style with footwear and alien kicks was born."

The Alien Kicks line features brands like Supra, ATO, Nike Blazers, Allesandro Del'Acqua and Lanvin.

So be on the lookout for the site coming soon and maybe you will see some Aliens in a city near you!

A while back my friend and I attended a comedy show downtown. A really funny, young comedian started talking about men and text messaging. Basically, according to him, two heterosexual men cannot-nay, should not-text one another. Now neither of us are males, so we didn't really know how to feel about that, but we certainly found it funny. According to him, a man texting another man things like "what you doing" is just, well...awkward. And then you must take into account the time of day (or night) these text messages take place. Don't forget you can't text too much either.

I guess my question is, in this post-"no homo"-era do men really have these unwritten rules about texting other men? And has reading this just made someone re-evaluate their texting habits?

Guess Whose Bizak?

Rolling Stone has confirmed that after 5 years, No Doubt will be returning and going on tour. Now I dont know about you, but "Dont Speak" was my jam. And for those of you who arent true music gurus, Gwen Stefani was born from No Doubt, before pursuing her solo career.

The band is set to record and write as well as tour, hopefully leading to a new album in the future. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that this wont be a reunion gone bad!

For all of you Clevelanders, No Doubt will be at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls on June 29, 2009 at 7:30pm. Accompanying the band on tour will also be Paramore.

THE OHIO HIP HOP AWARDS ARE BACK

It's a lifestyle. It's mainstream. It's on t.v, on the radio and in magazines. What is it? It's hip hop. A force to be wreckoned with, hip hop, believe it or not, is indeed inevitable. It's everywhere and it's definitely here in Cleveland. Gracing the streets of Cleveland, are some of the most talented rappers, lyricists, designers, models, writers, b-boys, grafitti artists and the list goes on. Hip Hop is not just the music that you hear, but it is a culture that Cleveland has definitely embraced and as a result of this love for hip hop, the Ohio Hip Hop Awards were birthed.

Four years ago, this September, the OHHA has been dedicated to highlighting some of Ohio's finest in the hip hop industry. Recognizing your favorite Dj to the hottest record label in Ohio to the best model, OHHA is focused on growing the entertainment scene. According to ohiohiphopawards.com, this is "the state's largest networking and social event," bringing in "thousands of industry professionals."

OHHA's mission statement is, ".....to recognize and reward those who are making a positive and impactful difference in the scene, while simultaneously educating participants on the best practices towards success."

Previous sponsors of this event include but are not limited to: Heineken, Toyota Scion, Red Bull, Radio One, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a list of other recognizable local businesses.

This 3 day conference will take place this year, on September 19, 2009 at downtown Cleveland's Convention Center. Nominations began on May 1st, and the categories include but are not limited to: Best New Artist, Best New Group, Best Model, and Best Night club. THE MAYONNAISE JAR (author unknown)

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle, When 24 Hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students, if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - Family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else -- the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
So... Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.
'Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you asked'. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'
